Summer is almost over, but there is still time to create a fire element altar. Why would you do that? Creating a fire element altar can help you deeply experience the element of Fire or to honor it.
CONSTRUCTING YOUR FIRE ELEMENT ALTAR
Before you construct your fire element altar, you have to think about how it is going to be used. Is this going to be used once or kept up all season? Do you want it indoors or outside? How will you keep the fire fed? How will you watch it so that it remains safe?
Choose your elements so they work with your vision. Perhaps you use an iron kettle that you set on a glass table or a brick mantle. Maybe you constructed a cement house especially for this purpose. Let creativity and safety meet in harmonious ways.
ADDING POWER ITEMS
Once you have the altar established, it’s time to add power items to juice it up. You something to create fire, such as an oil lamp, solar light, candle, or electric light. Items that represent fire are also great to add. Some ideas are any plant or substance that has Fire energy like sunflowers, marigolds, calendula, fire agate, sunstone, citrine, carnelian, pictures of the sun, cinnamon, clove, or ginger. Anything hot, spicy, or powerful can work.
CONSECRATE YOUR ALTAR
Everything on the altar and the altar itself must be consecrated. This purifies it and dedicates it to magical and spiritual use, so these items cannot be used for anything else.
To consecrate your altar items, light your candle or light source. Call to the authority (Oh, Great Spirit, Isis, Creator, God, ancestors, myself, etc.) that you are appealing to and ask that this space be cleansed and dedicated to Fire. Imagine a bubble of white light or purifying flames (that don’t burn) surround the area with that cleansing and know that it is done.
Light an aromatic plant bundle, Palo santo stick, or stick of incense. Waft the smoke around yourself, each item, and the space itself with the intention of purifying everything. Acknowledge that the work is done with a blessing in your own words like, “May this smoke purify my sacred space from any negative or stagnant energy so that my work can always come from the purest intentions and do the highest good while avoiding harm. So be it.”
